July 2016. We will be part of the Mercedes Benz GB club display with our Mercedes 600 sec as this year is the 25th anniversary of the launch of the W140 model. The club will give a parade lap on the Saturday evening.
Mission completed. My first ever visit to Silverstone circuit so very interesting to see and experience all that it has to offer. I did get close to visiting a few years ago when I had a ‘single seater drive it experience’ as a Birthday present, but it was not on the main circuit, just a smaller purpose built track nearby.
21-08-16. The next event for the 600sec is ‘S’ Fest in Coventry at the Heritage museum. Again the club would like as many W140 series Mercs. there due to the 25th anniversary.
August 2016. My nephew and I had a lovely day at MIRA Technology Park with Practical Classics Magazine. They were carrying out an ambitious photo shoot of the top 100 cars in their survey to find the nations favourite classic cars. The Fiat Panda was placed 18th in the survey and I was asked to take ‘Casper’ our Mk1 Panda 45 along to represent the breed. Full article is out in the December issue.
A week later and Casper was taking us to Italy and back for a painting holiday. It was a 2000 mile round trip and he performed faultlessly, covering 650 miles in one hit on the first day in France. Once in Italy he was much admired as, although there are thousands of classic Pandas there, they are all pretty faded and battered.
16-17/9/16. Once again Casper was pressed into action, this time accompanied by ‘Tilly’ our Fiat 128 3P. The event was two classic car shows on the Isle Of Wight, one on the Saturday in Newport and one on Sunday in Ryde. We’ve attended this event for a few years now representing The Fiat Motor Club GB along with other members. We normally have about 10-12 people in our group, bringing 5-6 cars.
23-24/9/ 2016. This weekend brought us together with our Fiat Forum friends who have 4×4 Pandas and like to use them offroad. With the new offroader not yet finished we opted to take ‘Buzz’ our 2014 Panda Cross. The weekend was based close to Stoke On Trent, and on the Saturday we trecked in convoy out into the green lanes of the peak district. Sunday found us in a nearby quarry that had been purposely adapted for offroading fun. The whole weekend was great fun despite our cautious approach, well we didn’t want to damage ‘Buzz’. He performed brilliantly but I did manage to rip off the small rubber spoiler from under the front bumper. A new one has now been fitted.
Going back to magazine aricles – Our white Seat Terra van was photographed for an article in Diesel Car Magazine. I have been reliably informed that the article will be in an edition early in 2017.
